Tiptree Tea Room, Southwold

Tiptree Tea Room is situated in the sunny seaside town of Southwold. We caught up with the manager, Sabine to find out more about the business.

Can you tell us a little bit about the tea room?

Tiptree Tea Room in the stunning coastal town of Southwold, Suffolk is our 10th tea room and our first outside of Essex. Our new location comprises of a traditional Tiptree tea room and shop. The tea room offers traditional table service in comfortable surroundings and we are open from 9am – 4pm in the Winter and 9am – 5pm in the Summer, and serve breakfast, followed by light lunches and cream teas, available seven days a week. For those short of time why not take away a light lunch or choose from wide range of sweet treats made by our expert bakers at Tiptree Patisserie. Finally, our shop features a range of Tiptree products, including jams and marmalades, fruit gin liqueurs and our luxury gift range.

What makes your business unique?

Tiptree at Southwold Tea Room is unique as it is the first Tiptree Tea Room outside of Essex. The tea room is part of the Wilkin & Sons Limited family who are also, more famously, know as Tiptree Jam. Tiptree at Southwold joins 9 other Tiptree Tea Rooms and shops dotted across Essex.

What do you love most about what you do?

We absolutely love seeing our customers every day, whether they be local or holiday makers. We especially love when they choose to visit us for a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. We will always try to go that step further into making their experience as special as possible.

What is your top pick from your menu?

In our opinion it has to be the special Tiptree Afternoon Tea for Two; English Afternoon Tea served on a three tier cake stand with two freshly made sandwiches of your choice, homemade fruit scones, Tiptree Little Scarlet Strawberry preserve and Rodda’s classic Cornish clotted cream. A selection of our miniature individual patisserie items to finish, with your choice of tea or coffee. What is there not to love, there is something to suit every taste.

After visiting, where would you recommend to go for a walk?

After indulging in one of special Tiptree Afternoon Teas we would recommend taking a stroll along the Southwold Pier that has an amazing traditional seaside amusement arcade and typical seaside shops. You can spend a whole afternoon enjoying the wonders of the Southwold Pier, it’s great for all ages.

What is your favourite thing to do in Suffolk on your day off?

There are far too many wonderful things to do in Southwold for us to choose just one favourite but if we had to choose we do really enjoy taking a picnic down to the Southwold beach and watching the world go by. We find this a great spot for people and dog watching too!
