Barretts, Woodbridge
Barretts is situated on The Thoroughfare in the vibrant town of Woodbridge. We caught up with one of the owners, Jill to find out more about her business.
Can you tell us a little bit about your business?
Barretts is an independent store specialising in inspiring and beautiful home furnishings. For 50 years we’ve been helping people to ‘love their home’, so our experience and expertise is assured. If you’ve just moved or fancy a refresh, then a trip to Barretts is a must. And don’t forget with our ‘Peace of Mind Guarantee’, the whole experience will be a pleasure.
What gave you the inspiration for your business?
My mum and dad, Ann and Jack Barrett, opened the store back in 1969, so they are my inspiration. They were all about good, old-fashioned service with a smile. Dad started out as a carpenter so opening his own business was a lifetime dream and I’m so proud of the gorgeous store they’ve built up over the years in the market town of Woodbridge.
What makes your business unique?
Our famous service is really something to boast about. We believe you should be able to try before you buy with our approval service. This allows customers to take a product home to co-ordinate colour and size before making a final decision. The free access check takes the risk out of buying a new bed or large item of furniture, and our free measuring and estimating service for curtains, blinds, and carpets is important for that perfect fit. All these service elements come with no obligation to buy. We don’t operate commission based selling, and whilst we want your custom, there’s no pressure selling at Barretts.
What do you love most about what you do?
Working with people really is an honour. From the interesting customers who pop in for a chat or a browse round to our super staff who are great fun to work with – I really do feel lucky!
After visiting, where would you recommend to go for a coffee?
Oh my gosh, we really are spoilt for choice in Woodbridge. I always try and shop “independent” because I know what it means to be a small shop owner – spending locally not only supports the local economy, but it also helps to employ local people and shape the high street. Woodbridge has loads of great coffee shops so you can “spread the love” and visit a different one every day!
What is your favourite thing to do in Suffolk on your day off?
Definitely walking (and sampling pub fayre). We have a puppy, Elsie, so keeping her exercised and socialised ticks off both those boxes. We love to walk up the coast from Aldeburgh to Minsmere so Elsie can have a paddle.
